RSVP this event on Facebook

It is pristine, grand and ethereal. That’s Chandratal Lake at an altitude of 4300 meters, fed by glaciers and revered by all, located in the cold desert of the Spiti valley. Every year the lake is unbound for seven months and the lucky ones can visit only once the road opens in last week of May to be closed in September. At a distance of 123 kms from Manali, The Chandratal Lake has many a legend attached to it, one being that fairies often descend from the heavens to dwell in its serenity. Well we don’t know if we run into them or not, however one sight which will resonate forever is the Full Moon night at Chandratal.

Be among the first ones this year to quench your outdoors at Chandratal. The full moon for June falls on June 17th. Our trip starts from Delhi on the evening of 14th June, boarding the overnight Volvo bus to Manali. Once in Manali, we spend a day exploring this hill town and indulging in a session of white water rafting on the Beas. We leave for Chandratal lake on the morning of 16th, driving or riding through The Rohtang Pass 3980mts, descending to Gramphoo 3200meters and then journeying through glaciers and high Himalayas passing Chattru 3560mts and Chotta Dharra 3920mts. After Chotta Dharra it’s a climb towards Batal 3900mts and then the final stretch of 18kms to Chandratal Lake. We set up camp, our base for two nights and just breathe in the marvel of nature. The next day we walk from the lake to the Kunzum Pass 4551mts, a good walk of 5 hours. Our vehicles pick us up from Kunzum and drive us back to the lake. We bid adieu to Chandratal on the morning of 18th June and drive back to Manali, to reach in time to catch the overnight Volvo bus to Delhi.

The trip is an all encompassing trip inviting Mountain Cyclists who would love to ride the trail towards Chandratal. Choose your own style – Do the downhill from Rohtang, descend from Kunzum pass and if you love to ‘tough’ it out attempt the uphill climbs. We also welcome motorcyclists looking for that short two day ride through some of the most challenging terrain – after all the much coveted “Raid-de-Himalaya” rally also passes through here. And if cycling and motorcycling is not your mantra enjoy the trip in the jeeps.

The trip is fully supported with accommodation on twin sharing basis in a Hotel in Manali and camping in two men high altitude tents with double mattress and sleeping bags in Chandratal Lake. All meals are included and so is mineral water. We do not recommend alcohol, if need be we say you carry your own.

Be sure to carry woolens and fleece and good boots. It will be very cold in the night at Chandratal. The rest is drill – medicines, insurance and whatever personal one can think of.

For those curious if we are giving Mountain Bikes on Hire – yes we can @ 1200/- a day and also Motorcycles @ 1200/- again. This is above the cost of the trip.

COST: INR 10,800/- (Indian Rupees Ten Thousand and eight Hundred only) per person.

Includes (Accommodation on twin sharing basis in a hotel in Manali, camping in Chandratal, Trek to Kunzum Pass, Transport in a Volvo bus from Delhi to Manali and from Manali to Delhi, All meals starting with breakfast in Manali till lunch on the day of departure, Mineral water, support staff and a field expert)
